Vault

Out of your camera roll

Everything you would rather nobody scrolled past.

Move it in, delete the original, and the only copy left is the encrypted one — reachable only through your face, your fingerprint or your code.

    Photos, videos, notes and documents

    Four sections that sort themselves by file type, with albums on top — one file can sit in several albums, and deleting an album never deletes a file.

    Move them in, clear them out

    Import photos and videos from your library in original quality, and let iOS delete the originals in the same step. Files, the share sheet from any app, and a link to a file work too.

  3. 03

    A private camera

    Take photos and videos straight into the vault. They never touch your camera roll, so there is nothing to clean up afterwards.

    Find anything, recover anything

    Search across every section, including the text inside your notes. Deleted items wait in a bin for thirty days — or as long as you choose — before they are gone for good.

    A viewer and player that stay inside

    Swipe through photos, play videos and audio with speed controls, an equalizer and a visualizer. The lock screen shows playback controls, never the file name.

Encryption

Bank-grade, 256-bit

Military-grade encryption, on every single file.

The same class of 256-bit encryption that protects banking and government data, applied on your phone before anything is written down.

    Every file, its own key

    Each file is encrypted with 256-bit ChaCha20-Poly1305 under a key of its own, derived from a random 256-bit master key. Break one and you have broken one.

  2. 02

    Names and albums too

    File names, album names, notes and records are encrypted alongside the files, so even the list of what is in the vault reveals nothing.

  3. 03

    Your passcode is the key

    The master key is sealed with your passcode through 120,000 rounds of PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256. Without the passcode — or your recovery code — the vault is noise.

  4. 04

    No plain copy anywhere

    Nothing is decrypted to disk. What you view is opened in memory and gone when you close it; the app-switcher preview is blanked the moment you leave.

Locks

    Face ID, Touch ID or a passcode

    Unlock with a glance or a fingertip, with a 4- or 6-digit passcode behind it. Auto-lock when you leave the app, when the phone locks, or after one, three or five minutes.

  2. 02

    Lock it in a hurry

    Shake the phone, turn it face down, or use the panic gesture, and the vault locks on the spot — mid-video, mid-scroll, wherever you are.

  3. 03

    Screenshots and screen recording

    The vault locks the moment a screenshot is taken, and the screen goes blank while it is being recorded or mirrored.

  4. 04

    Stricter away from home

    Mark places as safe, and the vault tightens its locks everywhere else. Location is checked only at the moment you unlock, and never opens the vault by itself.

  5. 05

    Locked out? Not for ever

    A recovery code is made when you set up the vault, and can be mailed to an address you choose — so a forgotten passcode is an inconvenience, not a loss.

    A decoy vault with its own passcode

    Fill a second vault with ordinary photos and files and give it a different passcode. Whoever makes you open the app sees the decoy — and nothing on screen says a real vault exists.

  2. 02

    A calculator that really calculates

    Pic Vault can open as a working calculator, clock or notepad, each with a matching Home Screen icon. The vault appears only when you enter your code into it.

  3. 03

    Break-in alerts

    Every failed unlock is logged with the time and the code that was tried, and the front camera can take a photo of whoever was holding the phone.

    Tabs, private tabs, a built-in ad and pop-up blocker and per-site rules. History and bookmarks are encrypted, and downloads land straight in the vault.

    Wi-Fi transfer

    Open the address on a computer on the same network, enter the PIN, and move files in or out of the vault. It runs only while the screen is open, and stops the moment the vault locks.

    Encrypted backup to your own storage

    Mirror the vault to Google Drive, Dropbox, Yandex Disk or a server of your own, encrypted with a backup passphrase before it leaves the phone — on unlock, only on Wi-Fi, or only while charging. Restore it onto a new phone in one step.

    Import from where your files already are

    Browse your cloud drives and servers inside the app and pull files straight into the vault.

What is in your vault is nobody’s business. Including ours.

  • Files, names and records are encrypted on the device.

Before you download

01 How secure is Pic Vault?

Every file is encrypted with 256-bit ChaCha20-Poly1305 under a key of its own — the class of encryption banks and governments rely on. File names, albums, notes and records are encrypted too, and the keys are sealed with your passcode on the device.

02 What is the decoy vault?

A second vault with its own passcode. Put ordinary photos and files in it; if someone makes you open the app, enter the decoy passcode and they see only that content, with nothing on screen to suggest a real vault exists.

03 Can someone tell the app is a vault?

Not if you use a disguise. Pic Vault can open as a working calculator, clock or notepad, with a matching Home Screen icon, and shows the vault only when you enter your code.

04 What happens if I forget my passcode?

Use your recovery code, which is created when you set up the vault. You can also have it mailed to an address you choose, so a forgotten passcode does not mean losing what is inside.

05 Does it remove photos from my camera roll?

Yes, if you want it to. After an import, iOS asks whether to delete the originals, so the only copy left is the encrypted one in the vault.

06 Can I back up the vault?

Yes. Mirror it to Google Drive, Dropbox, Yandex Disk, or a WebDAV, SMB, SFTP, FTP or S3 server of your own. The backup is encrypted with its own passphrase before it leaves the phone, and restores onto a new device.

07 Does it need an account?

No. There is no sign-up and no account with us. Your vault lives on your device, and it only leaves when you send it somewhere yourself.

08 Is there an Android version?

It is on the way. Pic Vault for Android is in development and will be listed here when it reaches Google Play.

09 Which devices and languages does it support?

iPhone and iPad with iOS or iPadOS 17.0 or later, in 35 languages.
